Forests + Waterfalls

Waterfalls in the Otways

The Great Otway National Park is peppered with stunning waterfalls that are only a short drive away.

Lake Elizabeth

Hidden deep in the Otways 8km from the township of Forrest.  Alluringly beautiful calm waters surrounded by rainforest and punctuated by the tattered trunks of a dozen manna gum trees, their smooth moonlight-white bark long since weathered grey and scaly. (1.5km return from carpark, circuit trail 4km return)

The Redwoods

The fairytale forest deep in the Otways. A walk for the first time between the massive trunks flanking the river creates a special feeling of awe and reverence – not to be missed.

Turtons Track

A magical 18km road between Tanbryn and Beech Forest meandering through fern glades and rainforest with giant messmates and beech trees.

Local Coastal Walks

Paddies Path

Linking the hamlets of Wye River and Separation Creek, running from beside the Wye CFA building to the corner of the Great Ocean Road and Stanway Drive in Separation Creek. Make a circuit walk by returning along the beach.

Jamison River Walk

From the Wye General Store, walk across the bridge to Paddy’s Path beside the Wye CFA shed. Follow the path through to Separation Creek, cross the bridge, left into Sarsfield St and then immediate right into Olive St. At the top of Olive St, you will find the path goes through to the Jamison Creek Bush Campground. The trail is a combination of gravel pathways and landscaped stone steps, has multiple stunning lookouts, and beautifully sculptured resting seats. From Wye River it's about 12k’s return. A shorter option is to drive approximately 2.5kms past Separation Creek, turn into the Wye Road, park and pick up the trail there.

Wye to Kennett Beach Walk

An absolute favourite. Best done at low tide as some sections become impassable. Rock hops, sandy stretches and crashing waves. Return is about 10km’s.

Blue Pools + Blue Lagoon

Half way between Wye and Sep are the Blue Pools protected by a rocky reef. Continue along to Separation Creek beach and walk to the end and onto the rocks. Formed by a small rocky reef, Blue Lagoon is approx. another 1km rock hop. Both of the Blues are great swimming holes on a low-medium tide. Return is around 5km’s.

Wye River River Walk

Starting from the playground beside the Wye General Store, follow the river to the fishing platform and then through the Big 4 Caravan Park. Stick to the river, there are a series of wooden bollards defining the trail as it passes through the van park. At the end of the park keep following the river path. There are two river crossings via easy large flat stepping stones. The trail finishes at the site of the old Wye River weir. Return is about 3km's.

Kennett River River Walk

Start at the picnic tables near the Kennett River bridge. There are a number of boards with great info about the flora and fauna in the area at the start of this walk. At the end of the grassy pathway the track continues further into the forest, meandering along beside the river.

Grey River Rock Ramble

So many wonderful and varied rock formations along this walk. Start at the Grey River picnic area and take the stone steps down. Walk in either direction, towards Kennett River requires a river crossing. Walk towards Apollo Bay and you will find a small sandy beach with good access to swim, shh, it’s a local’s favourite. Best done at low tide.
